How to move from reading the Bible to living it

Do you feel like you are just skimming the surface of Scripture? Discover how to move from brief, daily readings to a deeper, life-transforming 7-day practice.

Sunday morning comes around again, and you feel the familiar weight. You have prepared, you have prayed, yet you feel as though your own soul is starving. In the rush of ministry—balancing the needs of a multi-generational congregation, navigating the cultural gaps between first and second-generation families, and managing the quiet, gnawing anxiety that comes with the responsibility of leadership—the Bible often becomes a resource to be mined rather than a garden to inhabit.

We often treat Scripture like a quick snack. We grab a verse, find a thought, and move on to the next task. But the soul requires a different rhythm. It requires the ancient patience of the *Via Monastica*—the monastic way of dwelling in the Word until the Word dwells in you.

The 7-Day Scripture Journey

We designed the 7-Day Scripture Journey not as another study guide to complete, but as a framework to slow down. It is a tool to help you take one single passage and live within it for a full week. Instead of rushing to the next chapter, you stay, you listen, and you allow the text to examine you.

How It Works: The Three Movements

  • Observation (Days 1-2): You begin by stripping away your assumptions. You look at the text as it is, not as you want it to be. You note the verbs, the context, and the structure. You are not looking for a sermon point yet; you are simply learning the landscape of the verse.
  • Meditation (Days 3-5): Here, you move from the head to the heart. You chew on the words. You ask, 'What is this saying about God's character?' and 'Where does this truth collide with my current anxiety or my current ministry struggle?' You allow the text to become a mirror.
  • Application and Surrender (Days 6-7): Finally, you move to action and release. You identify one concrete way this truth changes your posture toward your family or your congregation. Then, you surrender the outcome to God. You move from 'doing' to 'being.'
  • What Changes

When you stop skimming, the Bible stops being a collection of information and starts becoming a conversation. You find that your sermons are no longer manufactured from commentaries; they flow from a place of personal encounter. The anxiety of 'what to say' is replaced by the quiet confidence of 'what I have seen.' You no longer just preach the text; you inhabit it. Your congregation will notice the difference—not because your delivery is better, but because your presence is deeper.

Ministry is not about managing a schedule; it is about keeping company with God. If you are tired of the surface, it is time to go deeper.
