We followed the "course of this world," living for immediate gratification and fueled by the desires of the flesh.

2. The Intervention of Grace (vv. 4-7) God did not leave us in that state. Because of His great love, He made us alive. The core term here is *grace* (χάρις, charis), which signifies an unmerited favor—a gift given to those who deserve the opposite. This is the divine shift from death to resurrection life.
